Join us this September for a tour of one of the small farms Lettuce uses to produce their hyper-local meal kits. We’ll have a delicious farm salad for all attendees to sample what Lettuce has to offer in this season. We will also have meal kits available for those who would like to pick one up. Be sure to choose the ticket option with meal kit so we can have enough ready.

scholarship opportunity to FARFA’s farm and food leadership conference 2018

Scholarship Application Deadline: Friday September 21st, 2018

Slow Food Austin is offering a scholarship to the Farm and Food Leadership Conference 2018 from October 14th – 16th, in McKinney, Texas. This unique conference focuses on the policies and regulations affecting our farms and our food as well as the latest developments in sustainable agriculture.  Whether you are a farmer, consumer, chef, local foods business owner, or nonprofit advocate, you will find useful information and tools to help support the growth of the local and sustainable food movement.

Highlights of the conference will be in depth pre-conference workshops, knowledgeable and engaging speakers, on-farm dinner, and networking with like-minded individuals.

For additional information about the conference, please visit the Farm & Ranch Freedom Alliance website.  The scholarship will cover the ticket for the conference, the Farm Dinner, and a travel stipend of $250. For an opportunity to win this scholarship, please submit the application below. The deadline for submission is Friday, September 21st. The scholarship winner will be contacted directly by Slow Food Austin.

As advocates and members of Slow Food Austin, we strongly encourage, but do not require, our applicants to be members of Slow Food USA. While this is not a requirement to apply to the FARFA conference, it is an additional way to stay up to date with current events in the community. slow session: tasting tour with texas farmers’ market, 8/8/2018

In celebration of National Farmer’s Market Week, join us for a tasty tour of the Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller on the first Wednesday night of August. We will visit with local farmers and food producers to taste the best of their summer bounty!

This is a free event, but please reserve your spot by claiming a ticket.

Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller is open Sundays 10am-2pm and Wednesdays 5-8pm, selling local, sustainable direct to consumer produce, meats, dairy and artisanal goods from 90+ Texas ag and food producers. TFM is the only verified farmers’ market in town as all ag producers are inspected by staff to understand growing practices and ensure transparency to consumers.

TFM at Lakeline and Mueller are organized under F2M Texas, a 501(c)4 non-profit corporation centered around hosting and educating Central Texas producers and consumers to grow a sustainable food system.

In June, we’ll celebrate summer with our happy hour at Intero. Enjoy some icy-cold cocktails while getting to know this sustainability-focused restaurant with a whole plant and animal approach. And, stop by the artisan chocolate counter, inspired by Italian cafes, at the front. We’re going back to one of Austin’s original urban farms. Owners Carol Ann and Larry have been growing vegetables and hosting a weekly market since 1992. A lot has changed over 25 years, so join us for a tour of what’s growing in East Austin and see how Boggy Creek Farm has risen to the challenge of growing healthy sustainable food for the Austin community.

We’ll have snacks showcasing farm vegetables created by Vegg Catering following the tour and some market stand snacks to take home with you.

The Tomato Dinner at Springdale Farm will be bittersweet this year. We’re happy to celebrate with the farmers as they move on to new adventures, but this will be our last event at this wonderful, urban farm. As always, our Annual Tomato Dinner will highlight a variety of types and preparations of home-grown tomatoes from the farm. The evening will begin with a seasonal cocktail with Tito’s Vodka and appetizers, followed by entree courses and dessert.

Join us for an afternoon farm tour in South Austin at La Flaca Organic Farm on March 3 at 2:30 pm. Following the tour, Puli-ra will give you a taste of this hyper-local produce in their self-defined style, “Low Country Indian meets Hill Country Texan,” with a snack made with ingredients from the farm. Each attendee will also receive a plant from the farm to take home and grow.
