For our August Happy Hour, meet us at The ABGB for local, craft beer and seasonal pizzas and lots of other great drinks and snacks too! We’ll be celebrating our Austin delegates to Terra Madre as they prepare to attend the Slow Food International event in September in Turin, Italy. Donations will benefit our Terra Madre delegates and Slow Food Austin, and with a donation you will receive a ticket good for a beer, a glass of wine, or a can of Argus cider.

Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto is Slow Food’s largest international gathering that happens every two years in Turin, Italy. It brings together farmers, chefs, writers, educators and food producers from over 150 countries to discuss and celebrate edible biodiversity and the future of food. It is the largest food festival on earth and perhaps the most diverse – attracting the Slow Food Movement’s vast Terra Madre Network of indigenous food communities from around the word. It is designed so that everyone from a First Nations farmer to a Michelin-starred chef can eat together and exchange ideas. Through its many lectures, exhibitions, panel discussions, dinners, and tasting workshops – Terra Madre is an educational experience for Slow Foodies to learn more about the cultures that surround food, international food policy issues (such as land grabbing and seed patenting), and sustainable solutions for the future. Slow Food Austin helped select the group of Austin-area delegates who will represent the U.S. this September at Terra Madre 2016 and share the ideas our city has to offer with the world. Our group of delegates are leaders in Austin’s sustainable food movement, and we are confident that they will each use the wisdom and experiences they glean from Terra Madre to benefit our community. Help us support our delegates at this life-changing global gathering!

Start your Memorial Day weekend fun on Thursday May 26th with Happy Hour at Olamaie. They’ll have a happy hour menu of cocktails and appetizers. The suggested donation of $10 will benefit Dewberry Hills Farm and Slow Food Austin. On Saturday, April 30th a massive thunderstorm devastated their small, sustainable, pastured poultry farm. 75-mile-an-hour winds and torrential rain destroyed the movable chicken tents, flooded pastures, and many birds were lost. All of this, after financial loss due to damage from a tornado on December 13th. The farm is raising funds to be able to make significant infrastructure changes and be better prepared for any future weather events. Lenoir_Event

Join us for a night in LENOIR’s wine garden to support our friends in need at Green Gate Farms, a farm that has always been there for the Austin community. For the past three months, Green Gate Farms has gone through events that neither a family nor small business should have to experience in a lifetime, let alone a year. First, Farmer Skip was hit by a reckless driver, totaling their delivery van and resulting in medical issues that prevented him from planting crops for their Community Supported Agriculture distribution. They then received a notice from their landlord that rent will be raised on their city farm. And lastly, Bastrop County denied agricultural valuation for their River Farm, meaning their taxes will be nearly seven times higher than they usually pay. Proceeds from the happy hour will be donated to Green Gate Farms to help alleviate this financial stress.

Your $15 entry donation (via cash or credit card) will go directly to keeping Green Gate Farms so Skip and Erin can continue their passion of farming and food education to benefit all of us in Central Texas! Complimentary drink and specially priced snacks will be available.

You can also help Green Gate Farms by supporting their GoFundMe Campaign.
