Is there anything more gratifying than spending a spring evening  eating with friends on a local farm? Join old and new friends at a potluck  dinner on the farm with live music, beverages, and a to&#8230;ur of the farm.</p>
<p>Bring a &#8220;slow&#8221; dish of your choice to share. We also suggest bringing  your own dinnerware, camp chair or blanket, and extra money if you would like to  buy goodies from the farm while you are there. At this event, you can learn more  about all organizations involved and we will feature education about local CSA&#8217;s  including a list of CSA&#8217;s that are still accepting new members.</p>

All around the globe, people will work together to make a  difference. This &#8220;revolution&#8221; is about connecting with your community by sharing the  pleasure of eating.</p>
<p>The ideals of Food Revolution Day are aligned with  Slow Food Austin and so we are hosting an event on May 19, 2012 to inspire us  all to think about where our food comes from and promote food education for  everyone. Whether you are a skilled locavore or you are new to the movement, you  are welcome at our table.</p>

Countryside  will be featured on a  summer episode of &#8220;Bizarre Foods&#8221; with Andrew Zimmern.  Now is your chance to  get a sneak peak of their thoughtful animal husbandry. <strong>The tour will include a  roasted pig lunch on the farm, prepared by our hosts.</strong> <em> </em></div>

<p>In this Slow Session, you’ll learn the basics of refrigerator pickling, a quicker, convenient, less labor intensive way to store your fresh veggies and create delicious snacks, meal accompaniments, and gifts!  This method applies to cucumbers of course, but much more including zucchini, artichokes, eggplant, and peppers.</p>
<p><strong>About Kate Payne:</strong><br />
Kate Payne is an author, grant writer, after-hours poet, occasional painter, committed doodler, drive-by trash collector, big-time procrastinator, tea, toast and jam obsessed Austinite. She collects old typewriters; some of them still work. She studied anthropology and sociology in the Sonoran Desert. She worked on a tomato farm once, and paper-mached gigantic thumbs once, too.</p>
<p>The creator of the <em>Hip Girl&#8217;s Guide to Homemaking </em><a href="http://hipgirlshome.com/" target="_blank">website</a> and book, Kate is the go to girl for domestic advice&#8211;an expert on hip home tricks, thrift stores, flea markets, and Craigslist, and a frequent consultant for design, decorating, cooking, crafting, and urban living sites&#8211;as well as an instructor in canning and pickling classes here in Austin, TX.</p>
