For our August Happy Hour, meet us at The ABGB for local, craft beer and seasonal pizzas and lots of other great drinks and snacks too! We’ll be celebrating our Austin delegates to Terra Madre as they prepare to attend the Slow Food International event in September in Turin, Italy. Donations will benefit our Terra Madre delegates and Slow Food Austin, and with a donation you will receive a ticket good for a beer, a glass of wine, or a can of Argus cider.
Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto is Slow Food’s largest international gathering that happens every two years in Turin, Italy. It brings together farmers, chefs, writers, educators and food producers from over 150 countries to discuss and celebrate edible biodiversity and the future of food. It is the largest food festival on earth and perhaps the most diverse – attracting the Slow Food Movement’s vast Terra Madre Network of indigenous food communities from around the word. It is designed so that everyone from a First Nations farmer to a Michelin-starred chef can eat together and exchange ideas. Through its many lectures, exhibitions, panel discussions, dinners, and tasting workshops – Terra Madre is an educational experience for Slow Foodies to learn more about the cultures that surround food, international food policy issues (such as land grabbing and seed patenting), and sustainable solutions for the future. Slow Food Austin helped select the group of Austin-area delegates who will represent the U.S. this September at Terra Madre 2016 and share the ideas our city has to offer with the world. Our group of delegates are leaders in Austin’s sustainable food movement, and we are confident that they will each use the wisdom and experiences they glean from Terra Madre to benefit our community. Help us support our delegates at this life-changing global gathering!
